1. Operation Principle
The Thermostatic Wax that has been sealed in shell body induces expansion by a given temperature, and inner rubber seal part drives its handspike to move under expansion pressure to realize a transition from thermal energy into mechanical energy. The Thermostatic Wax brings an upward movement to its handspike, and automatic control of various function are realized by use of upward movement of handspike. The return of handspike is accomplished by negative load in a given returned temperature.

(4)Lag phenomenon is generally 1 ~ 2℃. Friction of each component part and lag of the component part temperature cause a lag phenomenon. Because there is a difference between up and down curve of traveling distance.
(5)Loading force of thermal wax actuator is difference, it depends on its’ shell size.

Update 3/1/12 – Frequently asked questions:
Q- why do you pull those fuses?
A- to reset the pcm WITHOUT disconnecting the battery
Q- why don’t you disconnect the battery?
A- that could potentially cause hvac actuator failure, moreso in the older ones like my 03…YOU can reset the pcm however you want to in yours:)
Q- can I pull the fuses and then clean the throttle body?
A- absolutely!

I’ve probably done this procedure more times then all of you assholes combined so I think I know what the fuck I’m talking about. Thanks for letting me know how much I suck, 169,000 peeps will tell you otherwise.
Our local shop wanted $381 to do this job and I have read online that some Ford dealerships charge upwards of $600. Total cost for me was $38 for the part, and about 5 minutes of easy labor. The part changed was a DPFE sensor, which effects exhaust recirculation.. It was malfunctioning, so our check engine light would not go off. We were getting a light error code. P1400
