1. Operation Principle

The Valvetronic engine replaces the function of the throttle body by using infinitely variable intake valve lift. 00003 2001 Ford Taurus Blend Door Actuator Operation 123113 – Here’s a little video showing the operation of the blend door actuator motor in a Taurus. It’s pretty cool to watch the actuator motor turn while you manually turn the temperature knob on the dash board. It’s neat to see that even though you are turning the blend knob pretty far from center to cold and center to hot, the actuator shaft really doesn’t turn that much. It only turns about 45 degrees either way from center, while the temp knob turns about 135 degrees either way from center. I guess that’s all they need it to move to effectively operate the blend door in the HVAC case.
