This shows the two vacuum pods that tend to fail most in post 9/85 Mercedes W126 vehicles. The two pods are for the air scoop that controls fresh/recirculated air. The problem manifests itself as center vents that mysteriously misbehave at odd times, usually when it is hottest outside.

Also, while these came from a post 9/85 W126 vehicle, chances are the pods will have the same issue in the pre-9/85 cars.
