1. Operation Principle
The Thermostatic Wax that has been sealed in shell body induces expansion by a given temperature, and inner rubber seal part drives its handspike to move under expansion pressure to realize a transition from thermal energy into mechanical energy. The Thermostatic Wax brings an upward movement to its handspike, and automatic control of various function are realized by use of upward movement of handspike. The return of handspike is accomplished by negative load in a given returned temperature.

Although the C4 Digital Dash is an impressive technological device it does have a few weak points. One of those weaknesses was the illumination of the cluster. From 1984-1988 Halogen bulbs were used until the Xenon filled bulbs replaced them. Known for their intense brightness, which is necessary in this application, the Halogen bulbs were very hot, sometimes even melting dash components and burning the bulb socket. These bulbs drew a lot of electrical current which put even more demand on the dash cluster’s already taxed power supply. Also, the life expectancy of halogen bulbs is only about 1500 hours.
